Freedom Of Speech

Freedom Of Speech. Something you hear about from valiant protesters who the government are trying to quieten etc. its not a concept that you would regularly think of let alone realize that your freedom of speech is being infringed on.

In the world as we know it today there is one MAJOR way of expressing your thoughts and opinions. I am doing it right now.

The Internet.

I am a member of the young generation. (18 years old). Ireland is a very liberal and safe country. We don't go to war etc. We have not to my knowledge had any attacks from a group of terrorists other then the I.R.A.

In countries such as the U.S.A however the government are constantly talking about the threat of terrorism etc. They like to keep their population scared, in fear. this has major advantages to them. They can pass whatever laws they want with reference to war etc as the american people are scared and they believe this might help.

if you are interested in how the american government has used "shocks" to the american people and the fear of the american people then you should buy and read this book. 

Recently the Egyptian Government blocked websites such as Facebook, Twitter etc. they did this to stop communication between rebels during the riots. This is unacceptable. But i thought to myself. this is egypt. I dont know anything about that country. they have different customs etc.

I was shocked, infuriated when i found that the american government are trying to pass a bill that will allow them to block websites. they claim this will be used against websites which show child porn or how to make a bomb etc. some people would argue that this is good. myself i am neutral as if this was to go through it would be like using the internet in school. every "bad" website is blocked. for instance i might want to learn the chemistry of how to make a bomb out of sheer curiosity. So this is a  debatable subject HOWEVER if this bill gets through there will be not limits. the Government of the U.S.A will be able to block EVERY website in a time of civil arrest. It is in the american constitution that citizens be allowed to carry guns in case the government becomes to corrupt and you wish to rebel.

P.S i would like to give a brief note on the name of this blog. nova cogitatio literally means new thought in Latin. the reason i put this phrase in an ancient language because i believe we should learn from the past.
